Graduation Ticket

I sent a few people a message on facebook about this, but I figured it would be a good idea to ask it here. I need one extra ticket for graduation. I'm pretty sure we only get four and I need five. If anyone thinks they might not need one of their tickets please, please, PLEASE!!! let me know!

I really appreciate it guys.
See you in class,
Stefanie

Screenprinting

Here's a link to that screenprinting place I mentioned in class today for those in my section. It's called D&L Screenprinting, and they are based in Seattle. They charge a per color set up fee, and then each print varies based on how many colors you have. Their minimum run is 50 posters, so not really useful unless you design something that a number of people want to buy, but it's an option.

Walking at graduation?

Is anybody walking at graduation? My family was asking about it and I hadn't even thought about it.

Reviving the GAC

Hey folks, I talked briefly to a few of you about this, but I'd like to know people's thoughts on reviving weekly meetings for the Graphic Arts Council. If we want to reinstate the GAC as an official BU group, the deadline for SAO is January 26th. That would require electing some officers and picking and finding an advisor. The benefits of being an official group of course, would be the chance for us to apply for funding. With funding, well, comes fun, right? It'd allow us to cover travel costs if we want to organize trips to studios, type foundries, another New York trip like last year, or plan any other events. It'd also help to re-establish us and give a chance for the juniors to step in and take on some leadership roles for next year.

So, what I'm asking is, are you interested? Would you want to meet once a week, or every other week and what day? I'm sure the majority of us are booked for the week, which is why we had previously met on Friday afternoon/evenings. Who would you want as an advisor? What would you be interested in doing as a group? I'm thinking along the lines of trips to studios right here in Boston, portfolio reviews, outside critiques, bringing in guest lecturers, workshops, and putting together our own shows.

If we're going to do it, we have to get moving soon, so thoughts are welcome. Be as specific as you can in terms of what you want to do and what you would like to see happen in the short and long term. Restarting this group will be another step for us to create a stronger program and get the enthusiasm running again.

Cut&Paste

I sent out an e-mail about this but just to remind everyone....
Anyone interested should definitely enter or plan on attending the event as there will be designers from all over the Boston area which would be great for meeting/greeting, making contacts, etc.
This event is being sponsored by AIGA and planned by Kristin Groener from Street Attack and Brian Butler, check out his website he has some pretty sweet stuff: http://theupperhandart.com/

Cummings & Good

Certainly a step in the right direction. Cummings & Good, one of the groups scheduled to meet us this semester, created in my opinion possibly the greatest sports logo ever. Behold the late grate Hartford Whalers.

Radical Cartography

Hey everyone. I hope your breaks have been going well so far.

I wanted to introduce you all to a really cool website I found a while back called Radical Cartography. It features a whole bunch of maps in any topic you can think of, and a lot of them are really great references for any future information design we may do. My favorite are the income donuts (Projects, Scale Comparisons, Income Donuts) where I can see every place in the top 25 metro areas that I can't afford to live in.

Another favorite of mine is the set of images from the 1870 US Census. You can download the whole set at 300 dpi. (Yummy, Six Atlases, The Ninth Census) Forget information design, I want some of the images as art prints!
